Chef Angie Shaghaghi
To be a great competitor in the world of food, like being a mom, takes planning, innovation, perseverance and exquisite timing. Food Network contestant and The Creative Cook entrepreneur Angie Shaghaghi started out teaching cooking with kids in her own kitchen – then, her culinary ambition took off:
“Cooking with kids (young or young at heart) since 2007 when I decided to reinvent myself after a divorce. Found myself a single mom with three kids under 6 and an appetite for making a difference. Trying to make ends meet and maintain my home in Wyckoff, would be no easy task but I was ready to fight. I found a need to get kids and families back into the kitchen which of course is the heart of a home, by offering classes out of my Bergen county home. This would also allow me to have my own kids by my side while I made a little cash.
First class was 6 of my neighbors little girls and they made a huge mess! I made barely enough to cover my expenses but once I cleaned up, I was ready to do it again “I researched, shadowed, and worked in a local kitchen watching everything to make my dream a reality,” writes Angie about her start.
“The library was my friend after dropping my kids off at school as I would sit and research how to make? How to start a food business? Just how to! One day, after a cooking class in my kids elementary school, a mom said “you know Rachael Ray is looking for the best home cook in America’ to compete on her daytime show. You should apply!” Well I did and within 24 hours her producers had viewed my audition tape and gave me a call. (I had been applying for Food Network shows for years!)”
Fast forward being a runner up on Rachel Ray’s ‘Hey Can You Cook ?!’ and having chef Gordon Ramsay eat my food and like it! The 5 weeks on her show set off a demand for more cooking classes, then private parties and chef gigs cooking for Jersey Housewives, Swizz Beatz, commercial series with Ted Allen, culinary partner for GE and CUTCO, executives| COO’s and the list continues to grow.”
Chef Angie Shaghaghi has also appeared on ‘Chopped’ and ‘Cutthroat Kitchen’ as well as morning show cooking segments. For more about Angie’s story and great recipes, pick up her unique cookbook, ‘Join My Table’ – click here
